[Northsea Pearl] Farming

[Northsea Pearls] are ‘Green’ pearls that can be found in [Darkwater Clams]. They are used in a variety of Tailoring recipes and are quite valuable, at least on my server – 30+ Gold each!

So where can you find them? There are 3 ways to acquire [Northsea Pearls]. The easiest, but maybe the most ime-consuming one, is to buy them from the vendor, Ahlurglgr, a Murloc vendor at Winterfin Retreat.

You will have to complete at least the early parts of the Winterfin Retreat chain quest before he talks to you. He usually has has (2) Northsea Pearls in his selling inventory. They are rare spawn items, so they may not always be there.

To be able to purchase them from him, you need to farm [Winterfin Clams], which you can find in the water as well as in the Murloc area just across from where the Vendor is located. You will undoubtedly have to kill many, many Murlocs to gather the Winterfin Clams, which is a good thing since those clams are also dropped by the Murlocs.

You will need to gather (30) Winterfin Clams to be able to purchase (1) Northsea Pearl, although that shouldn’t take much longer than 20 or 30 minutes, max.

[Northsea Pearls] can also be found inside [Darkwater Clams]. These clams, which contain [Succulent Clam Meat], also drop pretty regularly from those very same Murlocs. You can thus explore two farming options at once!

On top of that, [Succulent Clam Meat] is very valuable and thus very expensive, making it a worthy object of your farming endeavors in its own right!

The third and last way to farm [Darkwater Clams] and thus [Northsea Pearls] is through fishing. They can be had pretty much anywhere on the Ocean coast of Northrend. The downside to that, of course, if that you need an insanely high fishing skill to be able to fish in Northrend, and I know that not everyone has it.

Succulent Clam Farming in Icecrown

Greetings and a very Happy New Year to you all! The holidays where wonderful and I truly enjoyed some WoW time with my fellow guild mates as they were all on vacation as well….serious leveling was had!

Chianna is now level 80 and has traveled far and wide. So how about some more Succulent meat, I ask myself? Surely, there must be more spots to get them besides the Tundra?? After some research, I found 2 spots that looked promising. The Oracles in Sholazar Basin and the Ravenous Jaws found in Icecrown. It has been said that the Oracles have a 76% drop rate for the Darkwater clams….what? no way! I immediately jumped on my mount and headed off , happy as lark. As I get to my spot, I realize, to my utter dismay, I’m FRIGGEN FRIENDLY with them!! How in the heck did that happen? I thought I was friendly with the Wolvar? Then I remembered an already forgotten about quest that made me switch sides. I even tried the old school “at war” tab, but Blizzard fixed that bug gosh darn it! So I will never know if the 76% drop rate is true or not.

I then set my sights on Icecrown and the Ravenous Jaws that is said to have a drop rate 46%.` Located in Icecrown, Onslaught harbor (coordinates 14,44)…extreme northwestern part, it wasn’t hard to find. Nasty humans in the harbor but the Ravenous Jaws are sharks and swim around in the bay. So bring along some breathing pots or in my case, I was armed with my trusty Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole (equip gives underwater breathing! no more pots for me baby!)

Sad to say, the 46% is not the case…more like 22%…..and you can’t pull a bunch together to nab all at once…it’s one at a time…gggrrrr….not the best situation for farming to say the least. But it wasn’t all in vain thank goodness! One hour and 40min later with 100 shark kills under my belt, here’s the breakdown:

22 Succulent Clam meat – 47g
1 Northsea pearl -10g
5 Fillet of Icefin – 4g
1 Runic healing pot
Scroll of Stamina VII
Scroll of Strenght VII
Crystalsong Bracelts of Intellect ( DE for me ) -30g
Sleeted Longsword of the beast – 38g
Titanium Lockbox which held,
Skullcage of Eternal terror – 102g
Wolvar legguards of Nature Protection ( DE ) 30g
Shadow crystal – 2g
18g in cash from the sharks themselves
27g in vendor trash

Soooooooo….that adds up toooo….let’s see….carry the 4…apx value of 312g…not too shabby I must say. Certainly well worth the time, but I will continue to explore and see what wonders I may find next time… Until then, Happy Farming to you all!

Succulent Clam Farming in Northrend

Soooo, if you have read my last article, you have played with the Murloc suit and got too generally goof off and had a whale of time doing it hehe…. so on too, in my humble opinion, the easiest, most profitable farming ground I have seen thus far ( Please bear in mind that I am a sssllllooooowwww explorer and have yet to see every single zone, so don’t shoot me k? )…..

Clams, Clams, Clams!! Oh no, your thinking, not more Jaggel clam meat with the “occasional” small lustrous pearl….Yes, yes, I can read minds you know, but NO my friends, I’m talking about SUCCULENT clam meat! Yummy, yummy for your tummy and offers oh so more delights than the average clam! Yes you can fish for them but the Darkwater clam does drop in relative abundance when you kill the “bad, evil” murlocs in Winterfin retreat. But wait! There is more! Along with the meat, you will find a higher than average drop of ever sought after Northsea Pearls and Siren’s Tear. Both of the latter are in high demand as they are used in many of the professions. But wait! There is more! While you are running around killing the murlocs, take some time to pick up the “winterfin” clams while your at it ( they are scattered throughout the enemy territory)….those can be turned into the clam vendor to get, yup, you guessed it, Northsea Pearls and Siren’s tear! Wahoo! I must put a disclaimer, however, depending on what “time” ( meaning 7pm Friday night while everyone is doing the same thing as you might not be the best time ya know? )you are doing your farming session, those items may not be available at the exact time your ready to turn them in. But never fear, the “re-spawn” rate is fairly fast and you shouldn’t have to wait too long…heck, take another 10 mins and go gather just a few more for your next go around and be that much further along!

Here’s a break down:

Northsea Pearl = 30 winterfin clams
Siren’s Tear = 100 clams

I usually do 30-60 min farming session, with an overabundance of Winterfin clams and anywhere from 20-30 darkwater clams. So far, I haven’t had a session where I DIDN’T get a Northsea pearl and/or Siren’s tear from my darkwater clams as well ( in one case I got 3 Siren’s tear’s and 2 pearls! wahoo!!! )
