Frostweave Farming in Sholazar Basin

I was online quite a bit this weekend, leveling you know, and had much time to chat with my Guild mates. Chianna – Liberty, that is – told me that she had found a really great spot for farming Frostweave, with very high drop rates, et cetera.

That place is the Venture Co. in Sholazar Basin, just east of the Nesingwary camp. The thing is, Chianna is a tailor and thus gets bonus cloth drops, but I figured, if its very good for her, its probably just good for me, right?

So why not give it a shot?

So when I woke up this morning, I hopped on the taxi from Dalaran to Sholazar Basin, then made coffee. Priorities, priorities.

By the time I returned, I had arrived at Sholazar and was ready to paint the Basin red, so to speak.

The thing is, if you don’t have the extra tailoring bonus, the place pretty much sucks. In 45 minutes of farming, I gathered no more than 28 Frostweave Cloth, which is extremely bad by anybody’s standards.

Of course, I received a lot of Thick Fur Cloth Scraps, which are worth a soothing amount of Gold at the vendor, and also 3 or 4 nice Green drops, probably worth over 50g when properly disenchanted, but the goal of this farming run was Frostweave cloth, and on that account, I was sorely disappointed.

I’m going to ask Liberty if she can write a little something about how that area performs for Frostweave drops WITH the Tailoring bonus. Maybe then we can figure out what the bonus likely is.

[Northsea Pearl] Farming

[Northsea Pearls] are ‘Green’ pearls that can be found in [Darkwater Clams]. They are used in a variety of Tailoring recipes and are quite valuable, at least on my server – 30+ Gold each!

So where can you find them? There are 3 ways to acquire [Northsea Pearls]. The easiest, but maybe the most ime-consuming one, is to buy them from the vendor, Ahlurglgr, a Murloc vendor at Winterfin Retreat.

You will have to complete at least the early parts of the Winterfin Retreat chain quest before he talks to you. He usually has has (2) Northsea Pearls in his selling inventory. They are rare spawn items, so they may not always be there.

To be able to purchase them from him, you need to farm [Winterfin Clams], which you can find in the water as well as in the Murloc area just across from where the Vendor is located. You will undoubtedly have to kill many, many Murlocs to gather the Winterfin Clams, which is a good thing since those clams are also dropped by the Murlocs.

You will need to gather (30) Winterfin Clams to be able to purchase (1) Northsea Pearl, although that shouldn’t take much longer than 20 or 30 minutes, max.

[Northsea Pearls] can also be found inside [Darkwater Clams]. These clams, which contain [Succulent Clam Meat], also drop pretty regularly from those very same Murlocs. You can thus explore two farming options at once!

On top of that, [Succulent Clam Meat] is very valuable and thus very expensive, making it a worthy object of your farming endeavors in its own right!

The third and last way to farm [Darkwater Clams] and thus [Northsea Pearls] is through fishing. They can be had pretty much anywhere on the Ocean coast of Northrend. The downside to that, of course, if that you need an insanely high fishing skill to be able to fish in Northrend, and I know that not everyone has it.

Mageweave Farming in The Hinterlands

For some reason I still can’t fathom, it seems that Mageweave cloth is all the rage on my server. It probably is on yours, too.

As of a few days ago, Mageweave was selling on the Auction House for between 10 and 17 Gold per stack. Even the lower end of this bracket is truly outrageous.

So whether you are farming for materials to level up a cloth-intensive profession, such as tailoring for instance, or simply gathering up materials to make a mint on the Auction House, Mageweave is the way to go.

One very simple way to gather up stacks and stacks of Mageweave is by going to the Hinterlands and slaughtering Trolls. The little buggers seem to carry a whole bunch on their persons at all times.

There are Trolls all over the place in the Hinterlands, but the best place to go is Jintha’alor. Since the nerfing of vanilla WoW, they are no longer Elites and are prime targets for your farming endeavours.

Going from the bottom to the top of Jintha’alor should take you no more than an hour, and possibly much less, and you should be able to gather upwards of 100 Mageweave for your trouble, and that’s not counting the various other stuff you are sure to pick up.

Conservatively, that means a minimum Auction House value, just for the cloth, of 50 gold.

Netherweave Farming in Blade’s Edge Mountains

My druid, Allanona, is now level 67 and well on her way to level 68. I have decided to skim through the easiest quests of every region of Outlands in order to bring her to 68 as fast as possible so that she can finally go to Northrend.

After more or less finishing off Terrokar Forest last night with Talarin, my Priest buddy, I was considering which spot to hit next. The choices were either Nagrand, with hits fantastic hunting and skinning, or Blade’s Edge Mountains.

Since I already had a quest for Zangarmarsh that would take me to Blade’s Edge, I chose that. Sylvanaar has a nice little quest hub, and all the quests are very closely related and can be done more or less at the same time, which is always a bonus.

While I certainly wasn’t farming for anything specific, I paid close attention to the Netherweave drop rate, since I need some to finally level my First Aid skill to 375. There are several quests in Sylvanaar that require you to kill 30 each of the Bloodmaul and Bladespire Ogres, not to mention gathering crystals and geting the Ogres drunk. Those are pretty funny by the way.

What I found out is that the drop rate for Netherweave Cloth from the Ogres, both Bloodmaul and Bladespire, are more than acceptable!

I had two quests to kill 30 Ogres of each clan. It is safe to say that I did not kill much more than 60 total – maybe 70 – in the course of accomplishing all the Ogre-related Quests, and I managed to gather about 130 Netherweave cloth.

Calculating roughly, that’s an average of about 1.5 Netherweave cloth per kill, which is very passable, especially considering that I had to kill those Ogres for the Quests anyways.

What’s up with Mageweave?

I’m a hoarder. There you go, I admit it. I collect “legacy stacks”, and in some instances “legacy bags” of crafting materials.

With the coming of the Death Knight, I have had to sacrifice one of my banks. Metaux is the one that bit the bullet, so I’ve had to divert my belongings to other characters. I’ve also had the need to clear out some mats that either I’m not likely to need again, or I can farm easily.

Thus, all cloth up to Runecloth were sold. Linen goes for about 1g per stack, wool for 3-4g, Runecloth for 4g, and surprisingly, Mageweave sells for over 10g a stack. That’s a good price too, since I want it to sell fast.

The thing is, I have no idea why mageweave is so expensive these days. It’s not because of the Death Knight’s first aid driving up demand, because they start with their skill up to Runecloth.

The only thing I can think of is either a bunch of new characters picking up Tailoring, which I think is unlikely, or some sort of repeatable Reputation quest for some faction or another.

Either way, I’m cashing in now, and I’ll let you know what I find. I hate not knowing, even thoug I realize that the sum of what I don’t know greatly exceeds the sum of my knowledge.

Ragefire Chasm For Ultra Fast Linen Farming

I did very few instances on the Horde side, especially the low-level ones, because when I started playing my Tauren Shaman I knew pretty much no one and I wanted to concentrate on my leveling.

My shaman, Grunman, is now level 66 and well able to clear l0w-level instances alone, so I sent him to Ragefire Chasm, a very low level instance smack in the middle of Orgrimmar.

Now I won’t be as precise as my other instance articles, because quite frankly, there is not much to talk about. The mobs are all level 13-16 Elites and are mostly Humanoids, but there are some Beasts and a few Elementals as well.

The uncommon (‘green’) item drop rate is very good, if you are looking for things to disenchant. I did two runs and averaged about 15 bind-on-equip green items, as well as 2 or 3 bind-on-pickup Blues.

What is really exceptional about Ragefire Chasm is the Linen Cloth drop rate. In my two runs I managed to pick up 112 and 105 linen cloths, respectively.

Now you’re saying, Alex come on, that’s not very much… And you’re right, except for the little fact that the instance take me about 20 minutes to clear, killing every single mob. It would be even easier if you were doing with a Paladin or a Mage, since my Shaman basically has to kill all the mobs one by one.

In conclusion, if you are looking to run an instance for cash, Ragefire Chasm is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for Linen cloth to level Tailoring in a new toon, or for cheap and fast low-level Uncommon Green items for disenchanting or equipping said low-level toon, then you will not be disappointed.

A note of caution: Ragefire Chasm is Horde only. It is situated in the Cleft of Shadows right in the middle of Orgrimmar, and any Alliance character — except maybe a very high level rogue — would be hard pressed to make it there. I don’t think it would be worth it. Alliance people, stick with Deadmines!

Tailoring Basics Or How Not To Screw Up

I’ve found tailoring in World of Warcraft to be one of the most rewarding professions you could select. Some of the products you can make are actually valuable, so you could (possible, maybe) make some money, and if you’re a cloth wearing-class — you should be — then you can craft yourself some pretty nice gear unavailable otherwise, since some items are “Bind on Pickup”

Here are a few tips concerning Tailoring in World of Warcraft

Pick you second profession with care. By “care”, I mean “pick enchanting”. You will be able to disenchant all the low-level items you craft to level up your tailoring skill, earning you some materials to create enchants for you and your guild mates. As you level goes up, so does the power of the enchantments you can cast. You will also be able to sell the enchanting materials on the Auction House for A LOT MORE than you could have sold the items you disenchanted, if you could have sold them at all. “Strange Dust” sells a lot better than “Brown Linen Robes”, believe you me.

Keep Your Cloth. I know that you think you need every copper of WoW currency you can get you hands on, but resist the temptation to sell stacks of linen, wool, silk or anything else. Keep the cloth, turn them into bolts, craft items and disenchant them. A note concerning First Aid: use only enough cloth to level your skill, not a piece more. First Aid is valuable only to you (i.e. not valuable in terms of WoW Gold) while Enchanting is valuable to everyone (i.e. cash-generating machine)

Don’t Buy Recipes Willy-Nilly. Don’t go to the Auction House buying every single Tailoring recipe you don’t have. Do some research and only buy the ones that will a) help level up your skill or b) produce something valuable.

Have a Cloth Wearing Class. Those are Mages, Priests and Warlocks. This one should be obvious. I’ve mentioned it earlier, but I’ll repeat it here. Of course, you can be a Paladin or a Warrior and still be a Tailor, but you’ll miss out on good gear that you could craft for yourself.

Bags. Make bags! Not only will making bags level up your tailoring skill — up to a point — they are one of the few crafted items that are actually worth your while. Did you see what so-called “Bag Vendors” sell their lousy 10-slot bags for? They should be called “Bag Thieves”, “Bag Extortionists” or “Bag Profiteers”, but instead they go by the milder and inaccurate “Bag Vendor” label. My point is that bags sell really fast and really well. Everyone needs them. Quick note: crafted items that sell for more than the materials are worth at the Auction House are few and far between. Bags sell consistently for about the price of the materials, often for more, so they are a cheap way to level your skill. It will not make you rich.

Cool Crafted Items. Tailoring is an easy skill to level. If you pay attention just a little bit to what you are doing, you will always be able to craft items that are above your level. That means that when you reach the item level, you will be a well-equipped character indeed. Items like “Robes of Power”, which are “Bind on Pickup” (wearable at level 33) require only 210 Tailoring skill and are a very nice piece of gear indeed.

There are many more things I could say about Tailoring. Its fun, it’s easy, you pick up materials on the mobs you kill — no need to run after nodes of this or that — and if you picked you second profession with “care” then you could have a money-maker.

Mageweave Farming For The Lazy

As a tailor, Renei was confronted several times to the lack of resources to advance his chosen profession. Being a skinner did not help, as much as he tried. One of the most annoying lack came at the time of mageweave. Renei is pretty anal when it comes to leveling his skills, and if I remember correctly, First Aid consumed pretty much all the mageweave he and his buddies had stored.

Being a resourceful gnome, Renei looked around, asked, and found the easiest spot to farm mageweave. He then promptly dispatched Mandorall, a 70 paladin, to do the grinding for him (I told you, he’s resourceful). It’s not like he was gonna get his dainty hands dirty.

The best spot Renei found for farming Mageweave is in Northwestern Feralas (coordinates 39,13 and surroundings), from the Northspring Harpies, Slayers, Windcallers and Roguefeathers. These mobs are around level 45-50, drop Mageweave at around 34%, as well as some pretty decent coin and the occasional green. They also have a minuscule chance of dropping Blues (0.04%) and Epics (0.01%) but then who doesn’t.

An easy one-hour run could yield between 80 and 150 mageweave cloths, as well as (statistically speaking) one or two Greens, some money and a little vendor trash. This all depends on your luck, the level of your grinding character, and in general how efficient you manage to be.
