Flying Mount at Level 60 Changes Everything

My Blood Elf Paladin, Wesha, is now level 64. I went to Outlands as fast as I possibly could, at level 58, and started clearing out the quests in Hellfire Peninsula. Before I knew it, I was level 60, and to my surprise a note appeared in my Mailbox, inviting to learn the riding skill that would allow me to have a flying mount.

I thought it was a mistake for sure. I mean, the last time I went through that, Outlands had not yet been nerfed, and I had to hoof it everywhere until I got to level 77 in Northrend (or whatever).

Nevertheless, I didn’t ignore the note in my Mailbox. The riding trainer is right there in Thrallmar, and after a very short conversation with him, I spent 500 WoW Gold, plus 47 Wow Gold for the Flying Mount, and became the proud owner of a Blue Wind Rider. The choice of colors was atrocious, all pastels. You’d have thought that I was choosing a mount from the Miami Vice stables… But that doesn’t matter.

What’s important that my little Blood Elf Paladin got a Flying Mount at Level 60! Let me tell you, that changes EVERYTHING! Since I already have several high-level characters, I know Outlands pretty well, and having a flying mount has allowed me to level faster than ever before.

Between Saturday morning and Sunday evening, I gained no less than FOUR LEVELS! And without breaking a sweat! The Flying Mount allows you to complete quests without bothering how to get there. You can just fly around the map, completing quests, killing mobs, gathering knick-knacks, all in the blink of an eye! Of course this requires either prior knowledge, or the judicious use of Thottbot, but no matter, you get the picture.

I think that I will be level 68 by the end of next weekend, and from then on, Northend beckons! I’ll keep you posted, however I’m pretty sure (without having checked!) that Northrend has not been nerfed, so I can probably say goodbye to my Flying Mount once I reach the northern continent. We’ll see.

Adamantite Farming in Nagrand

Thanks to a generous contribution to the War Effort by Ulaer – Hladonar’s Death Knight Alt – and some serious cash outlay on my part, my Blacksmithing skill is now up to 330.

That means that no longer do I have to farm on foot like a worm! No, now Mandorall farms in style, flying over the desolate and beautiful landscape of Outlands, and gathering ore like its going out of style!

This morning, my meanderings took me to Nagrand, where I performed a 40 minute farming run for Adamantite Ore, and whatever else was there.

Here’s what I got:

80 Adamantite Ore
27 Fel Iron Ore
41 Motes of Earth
11 Motes of Fire
17 Eternium Ore

I think my Nagrand farming run went so well because of the time, and nothing else. I started at 5h30 AM so even though I saw a few other farmers – well, one, specifically – the place was pretty much deserted.

Having a flying mount also allowed me access to areas that are very much out of the way for land-bound farmers. If you have to kill 40 Warmaul Ogres to get to a Adamantite Ore node, then its not really worth it. If you have the ability to swoop in from above, perform a little surgical slaughter, get the ore and fly out, then the whole proposition just got a LOT sweeter.

Thanks to the 280 Fel Iron Ore that I received from Hladonar, I will be able to progress quickly to Adamantite territory, and then on to Cobalt and Saronite. Concerning my Blacksmithing Guide, I have decided to wait until my skill is at 375 to post the rest.

The Longbeards, Nethergarde Bitter and more…

I’ve been questing in Hellfire Peninsula with Mordauk, my Death Knight. He was level 58 last night, and as of about 15 minutes ago, he is now level 62.

Of course, during the span of that frenzied leveling, I was confronted again by the quest “The Longbeards”.

The innkeeper at Honor Hold wants you to go find “The Longbeards”, a pair of dwarf brothers that went off in the West somewhere.

They can be found almost due south of Falcon Watch in Hellfire Peninsula, but before you go see them, I suggest (strongly) that you visit Nethergarde Keep in the Blasted Lands.

You see, one of the Longbeards brothers, Miren, will ask you to gain your trust by bringing booze. That’s a dwarf for you. But since he’s a picky boozer, he wants Nethergarde Bitter, which is only sold by Bernie Heisten in Nethergarde Keep.

Every time I do this quest, I look for that guy – I never seem to remember where he is. So hopfully, writing about it will permanently jolt my memory.

Bernie can be found in the Northern castle at Nethergarde Keep, in the bottom left room. Turn left when you get in, then left again – he’s a “Food & Drink Vendor”.

Once you have your Nethergarde Bitter – better yet, buy a couple and put them in the bank for your next Alt that needs it – go back through the Dark Portal, and bring Miren his poison.

To “Gain Miren’s Trust” you’ll also have to be Honored with Honor Hold, but you should already be there. Otherwise, just do a couple more quests in the Honor Hold area, and that should bring you right up.

Speaker Mar’Grom In Blade’s Edge Mountains

I was in Blade’s Edge Mountains yesterday, doing a bunch of easy quest to get my Druid to 68 as soon as possible.

I was up to the quest where you have to shrink down some Bloodmaul Wolves, and lo and behold, one big-*** Ogre shows up. He’s got two heads, but that’s not entirely abnormal (“Hey! How about some love for shoulder guy?!”) but he’s dressed in absolutely garish orange robes.

Turns out it is Speaker Mar’Grom, out for his afternoon constitutional. Of course, I did not give him the chance to proceed, and ripped him to shreds in about 10 seconds.

Hey I know it’s no great feat, as I was level 67. Turns out that Speaker Mar’Grom was not so tough, and he dropped some nice blue gloves, [Nethersteel-Lined Handwraps of the Prophet].

Now those gloves are probably not worth that much – 70g according to Allakhazam – but I figure that I’ll be lucky if I get 25g for them.

So anyways, I found Speaker Mar’Grom immediately in front of the cave at the very bottom of the map, in the middle. He is supposed to drop blue gear pretty much 100% of the time.

I also achieved the [Medium Rare] achievement for killing him, which was a nice bonus.

Runecloth Farming at Expedition Armory

In previous posts, I examined the possibilities — or lack thereof — of farming Runecloth in Azeroth, as opposed to the blessed Outlands.

Today, I farmed the Holy Grail of Runecloth (outside of instances, of course), the Expedition Armory. The Expedition Armory is a destroyed town just south of Honor Hold in Hellfire Peninsula.

It is a depressing kind of place, haunted by 2 types of ghosts: the nice ghosts, who just walk around and work and laugh and do other ghostly activities, and bad ghosts, with which you can interact and that actually drop the Runecloth.

Once again, Grunman was the designated Runecloth farmer, a task with which he is getting well acquainted.

There are 3 types of mobs, and here are their “official” Runecloth drop rates:

Unyielding Footman 34%
Unyielding Knight 34%
Unyielding Sorcerer 34%

To the untrained eye, these drop rates may seem similar. Indeed they are. However, it SEEMED to me that the Sorcerers were more generous in their Runecloth contributions, often dropping three at a time.

Grunman spent one hour going around and around the Armory, killing everything that moved, and here is the total tally:

Cash Loot 12g 18s 19c
Vendor Trash 6g 2s 17c
Traveler’s Backpack 17g (yeah, right)
One other green Maybe 5g
Runecloth 111
Netherweave 16

The best thing about Expedition Armory is the respawn rate. Assuming the place is not crowded by pesky Alliance players doing quests, or G*d forbid, other farmers, you will never run out of things to kill — you can ALWAYS see your next victim –, nor will you be swamped by freshly spawned mobs.

All in all, farming Runecloth in that location is time well spent, assuming you actually need it. Granted, the green drops won’t disenchant into anything cooler than Arcane Dust (most of the time), but you’ll make more than enough money to cover repairs, and you’ll be able to level your tailoring by several points an hour.

Ogri’Lazy Add-On For Daily Quests

Reader Mythbuster thoughtfully brought this to my attention. A cool add-on for the Relic’s Emanation Quest that will help you remember the sequence of lights. Okay, it will not only help, but will remember for you. Here’s the add-on’s blurb:

Apexis Relics (as well as Apexis Monuments) around Ogri’la plateaus have you replay a sequence of up to 10 notes – but the sequence is easily forgotten, and writing it down is cumbersome (besides, it takes effort!).

Ogri’Lazy is aimed to simplify the process. When you interact with an Apexis Relic/Monument, the Ogri’Lazy window appears with four buttons, each representing a color of the sub pylon. Add the sequence the Relic is playing by pressing the buttons (or the hotkeys), and Ogri’Lazy will automatically keep track of the sequence for you. Once you start replaying the system, Ogri’Lazy will also keep track of your progress, saving you from forgetting which note you were up to.
The question remains: are you lazy enough to get Ogri’Lazy?
