Well, my quest for cheap Mithril to level up my engineering skill continues, and I gotta tell you, cheap Mithril is hard to find.

I followed the recommendation of my friend Hladonar and went to Badlands. Badlands is that annoying map that is mainly accessible through Loch Modan, and where the Alliance does not have a flight point.

I should have known straight away that this was going to be trouble. I have the Gatherer add-on installed, which records where which resources are harvested. This is shared with all members of the Guild that have it installed, so there are literally thousands of entries.

When I checked the map for Badlands, I saw mostly Iron Ore, with some Mithril concentrated to the southwest and northwest.

I gave it the ol’ college try. I really did, and it turned out to be a complete waste of time. In half an hour of pointless running around, I managed to acquire a dozen – yeah, 12! – Mithril Ore, and an depressingly similar number of Mageweave and Iron Ore.

Tomorrow I will try Searing Gorge. I heard from someone who heard it from someone who heard it from a friend that Searing Gorge has some nice Mithril mining.

A couple of days ago, Grunman, my overly powerful Tauren Shaman, finally made it to 60. He made his way to the Badlands to cross the Portal to Outlands, a region he had never discovered, since the tweaks Blizzard did to the leveling experience never required him to go there.

So Grunman was grinding happily, killing mobs while waiting for Alathiel, who had connection problems, and suddenly, like lightning out of a clear sky, comes the [Lifestone], dropping from a level 50-ish Basilisk, or maybe a boar of some kind!

Now Grunman was pretty happy. He’d heard all about Renei and Mandorall getting some Professor Plums, but he’d never thought his day would come!

Since I’d just reinstalled World of Warcraft on a new machine, I had no add-ons and could not tell what it was worth, so I asked a kindly warlock who was in the same area, and he informed me that it was worth 192g.

I have my doubts, since I promptly shipped it to my Bank/Auctioneer Zallesta for “processing”, she put it on for 135g and i t did not sell. I will try again next Friday and keep you posted!
