Farming Netherbloom in Netherstorm is FUN!

Playing a Horde character is fun. For instance, you can pretend you’re really bad ass and so much better, and cooler, than all those Alliance pussies with their pretty toon and fancy thingamajigs and whatnots.

Once of the disadvantages, at least in my case, is that I know nobody and since I hate people (not really, I love you guys!) I find it difficult to get groups to do instances that are not douchebag-heavy. Which brings me to my actual point: I have hit a wall leveling alchemy. I’m stuck at skill level 347 and I need three lousy points to be able to learn the Northrend-level alchemy and the cool recipes that come with it.

Since I can’t do Instances, I am somewhat limited in my choices for leveling. All that’s left that’s not grey is some sort of Super Healing Potion, and it requires Netherbloom. Since my leveling was so wicked fast, I didn’t even make it to Netherstorm, the only place where Netherbloom is found. I made a little foray there, riding my trusty Blue Wind Rider.

To start with, here is a partial Netherstorm Herb map:

As you can see, the map is not entirely explored, because I had to do this this morning and my time is limited. Before you go off looking for Netherbloom in Netherstorm, better know what it’s used for, and – conveniently enough – here is the list:

Destruction Potion
Elixir of Empowerment
Elixir of Major Mageblood
Flask of Blinding Light
Flask of Chromatic Wonder
Haste Potion
Shrouding Potion
Super Healing Potion (the only one I care about!)
Super Rejuvenation Potion
Superior Mana Oil

Wow, Renei, what a pleasantly polyvalent herb! Yeah well who cares. All I want is to level up 3 freakin’ points!

I spent about 40 minutes of my life this morning farming Netherbloom in Netherstorm, with somewhat disappointing results. This is due in great part to the fact that I had no flight point to Netherstorm, and had to fly on my crappy flyer all the way there, cutting down on my actual farming time.

Anyways, here is what I got:

33 Netherbloom
15 Dreaming Glory
5 Felweed
1 Golden Sansam
5 Motes of Life
1 Mote of Mana

I also got about 1 Wow Gold’s worth of grey stuff and loot, and 1 Green Item which I can’t disenchant so will be vendored.

All in all, not a total catastrophe, but I’ll be back there tomorrow and I’ll see what I can actually get in a REAL 30 minutes of farming, with no taxying about…

How to Annoy your Guildmates

As I may have mentioned, I really, truly like my guildmates. We are all roughly the same age, have the same kind of twisted humor, and well, like to play games. Heck! Our generation are the ORIGINAL gamers!

This of course, leads to a bit of friendly competitiveness. Alex and I have been enjoying leveling our Death Knights together this past week… but who will make what level < insert current level trying to be obtained> first? And yes, he got to 69 first and left me in Netherstorm all by myself! That selfish prig! So I think I will have to stalk him throughout Northrend now…

Another thing I find endlessly amusing in WoW is how people handle their Gold. Some are hoarders, some spend like drunken sailors, with most being somewhere in the middle. Alex, my dear guild mate, is a hoarder. A tight-fisted, not-buying-nothin’ hoarder! On the flip side, he is incredibly wealthy in WoW standards. I, on the other hand, am the proverbial drunken sailor! So, on my flip side, I’m always broke. But, Oh how I love to buy new, shiny things in WoW! However, I love it more when I taunt Alex with my latest purchase and how much I spent for it… the more expensive the better, the more useless, the better!

Wait until he finds out that I’m still going for my rep with the Aldor and that I’m NOT grinding for it, Mark of Sargeras direct from the AH for me! muhahahahaha

By the way… if you are on my server, and put some in the AH, please do it cheaply for me, because I’m broke…

[Sash of Sealed Fate] from a Sundered Rumbler in Netherstorm

Well, I got yet another Blue Drop, once again while leveling Mordauk, my Death Knight. He is now level 69 and already raising hell in Howling Fjord.

Sigh… They grow up so fast!

This time, I got [Sash of Sealed Fate]. This is a belt – obviously – that has a lvel requirement of 67, and that would be ideal for a Mage that does not have a belt that is part of a set.

Here are the stats:

81 Armor
15 Intellect
Increase spell power by 35
Increase Critical Strike Rating by 23

This nice little belt dropped for me from a level 67 Sundered Rumbler that I unfortunately (or not!) had to take out while clearing the way for killing Netherock.

Concerning my further adventures in Netherstorm, I must admit that I sort of gave up. I leveled all the way to 69 – just to beat Liberty to it (!) – then decided that the leveling would be better in Howling Fjord.

I hearthed to Shattrath, then ported to Ironforge, then on the boat to the Valgarde, the Alliance city there.

My Death Knight used a two-handed sword, and I must say that I am disappointed that those were not included in the early quest rewards. I guess I’ll go on a little longer, then go to the Borean Tundra and see what kind of sword I can get there!

New Discoveries in Netherstorm

The arrival of the Wrath of the Lich King Expansion has provided many new opportunities.

Everyone has a different style of play, and mine is very much driven by levelling. I have not done much raiding, confining my instances to smaller 5-man runs. Nor do I participate in PVP. Don’t know, it never really got to me.

I like leveling, exploring, and finding out new things. Once a character reaches the maximum level, I usually stop playing it to concentrate on leveling the others.

That means that there are great swathes of the map, mostly the higher level stuff, that I have never seen, since by the time I got there, I would already be level 70.

But with the level cap raised to 80, I can keep exploring and levelling!

Today, I discovered an area to which I’d never been, namely the small island in South East Netherstorm. This island is home to Kirin’ Var Village (The Violet Tower), Manaforge Coruu and Sunfury Hold. There is an interesting number of quests offered by Ghosts in Kirin’ Var village. The quests range from the regular killing quests, gathering quests as well as interesting quests where you kill notable characters in the Village, and then have to return some items – hat, cloak, sword, book – to specific houses in another part of the village.

The reason I had not seen that area before is because I had been suckered into going directly to Eco-Dome Midrealm, one island up. Then I reached level 70, and never went back.

My Death Knight is now level 68, and I figure he can quest and level in Netherstorm until about level 70 and a half, which will allow me to really explore that area, while getting rewarded with Experience Points while doing it!
