Mordauk went from level 58 to 68 very quickly, as I wanted to get him to Northrend as quickly as possible. That means that I mostly skimmed the Outlands zones, doing the easiest quests in each, in order to get my butt to 68 and leave.

That approach, while quite effective, has left huge areas of the map unexplored and sights unseen, which my little farming exercises compensate for.

So this morning I got the Achievement for Exploring Terokkar Forest at the same time as farming herbs. To tell you the truth, I probably would have found more herbs had I not cared about discovering the map.

Without further ado, here is the Terokkar Forest Herb Map, fully explored and unveiled by yours truly:

The main herbs to be found in Terokkar Forest are Terocone, Felweed and Dreaming Glory. Dreaming Glory, of course, is almost always found on the side of hills or mountains, and Terocone only in Forest. Felweed – probably because it’s a weed – has no problems growing everywhere (kind of).

So I farmed Terokkar Forest for about 20 minutes this morning, punctuated by frequent deviations to go explore an area of the map. Here is what I gathered:

• 27 Terocone
• 21 Felweed
• 9 Dreaming Glory
• 1 Fel Blossom
• 11 Motes of Life

I must admit that that’s pretty good for such a short farming run. The Fel Blossoms – they absorb damage when activated- are always useful, and the herbs, of course, are useful to both Alchemists and Scribes (or Inscriptionists, as some of you are so fond of calling them) but it’s really too bad about the Motes of Life.

They used to be so useful and sought after for level 70 gear and potions and such, and now, well, they are only a necessary and hurried stepping stone on the way to Crystallized Life and all the good Northrend stuff.

Too bad, really. Especially considering I must have 500 in the Bank…

When my mage, Renei, was making his Frozen Shadoweave set, he had to buy a crazy number of Primal Water, one of the primary ingredients in those tailoring recipes.

I don’t have to tell you that Primal Water, on the Auction House, is very, very expensive. Fortunately, at that time Renei was rich and purchased everything that he needed, never thinking of tomorrow.

I understand that no everyone is in the same situation, so I decided to scout a few places where Motes of Water could be farmed, relatively safely, and more importantly, quickly. My research brought me to the like lake that lies just north of the Cenarion Thicket, in Terrokar Forest.

That lake is populated by weak Shimmerscale Eels, level 62-63. They drop the usual grey crystals and are not skinnable, but they do have a decent drop rate – about 20% or so – for Motes of Water.

The Eels also have very few hit points, about 2000 or so, and are very susceptible to being killed quickly and without a fuss. Moreover, since the latest patch, characters can stay underwater for a long time, precluding the use of water-breathing potions or spells, meaning that any class can farm them.

In about 45 minutes of farming – maybe a little less – I managed to acquire 37 Motes of Water, so 3.7 Primal Waters. I also looted 2 Green items worth about 9 WoW gold to the vendor as well as approximately 20 WoW gold worth of vendor trash.

Advantages of Shimmerscale Eels for Primal Water Farming:

• Proximity to Shatthrah
• They die quickly
• Fast respawn rate
• Decent drop rate
• Value of vendor trash more than makes up for the lack of cash loot

Disadvantages

• Farming underwater can be slow
• Need to take a breath once in a while – easily remedied
• Relative popularity of farming spot

In summary, you should be able to collect 6-7 Primal Water per hour farming the Shimmerscale Eels. While this might not be the best drop rate around, the fact that they are easy to kill and quickly accessible more than makes up for that fact.

If you are farming Primal Water as a means of collecting WoW  Gold, then aggregated per-hour rate is more than acceptable, and if you are farming to level up a skill, the acceptable drop rate means you will soon be moving on to greater things!
