I’ve heard that a copper saved is a copper earned… World of Warcraft is full of spending opportunities, from fancy mounts and epic gear to utterly useless crap (like “Soap on a Roap” for example).

In this short article, I will go over a few (5… didn’t you read the title?) easy tips to help you earn and keep your World of Warcraft Gold for when you really need it. Epic Flying mounts are pricy, don’t you know?

Rule One : It’s not how fast you go…

When I drive somewhere, I don’t speed. Much. Driving 75 mph instead of 65mph won’t make a big difference in the end. What makes the difference is how often you stop. If you stop for food, gas, nature calls, and to pick up some crap that flew off some poor sap’s roof every 10 minutes, it won’t matter how fast you’re going. Your journey will take forever, and seem even longer than that.

And so it is in World of Warcraft. Buy the biggest bags you can afford, as soon as you can. That way you can grind (or quest, or farm, or whatever else turns your crank) for much longer without having to come back to town to mail your loot to an alt, or to visit the Auction House. Those big bags are going to pay for themselves in no time, and that is a guarantee.

Rule Two : Have Gathering Professions

With so many Level-70 toons around, all of them with so much gold, and creating alts, there is a Gold glut. Those Alts can afford to buy all the mats they need to level their crafting professions. And that’s where you come in. Skinning, Mining and Herbalism are ALL very, VERY profitable. No kidding, even stacks of Peacebloom (PEACEBLOOM, for G*d’s sake!) are selling now on the Auction House. So pick two gathering professions and supply them with mats. They’re rich and lazy and soon, so will you.

Rule Three : Don’t Buy Stuff

Unless you are already rich, you don’t ever, ever, have to buy anything, until level 70. Quest rewards are more than sufficient to properly equip any character, all the way to 70.

Rule Four : Exploit’s Other People’s Laziness and Wealth

Wherever you are, visit all the vendors you can and purchase — whatever the price — any rare spawn recipes or gear. Then mail the loot to your bank alt, who will then proceed to list them on the Auction House. You will make a mint, guaranteed. See, rich toons can’t be bothered to travel all the way to Boonytown to buy a recipe they need. They’ll just buy it, from you, through the Auction House. They do it all the time, and to say its profitable would be a ridiculous understatement.

Rule Five : Don’t Fly Blind, Fly on Instruments

And by instruments, I mean that you should install the Auctioneer Add-On. It will give you a pretty exact picture of the demand and recent price history for any item you find or that you can mouse-over. Having this add-on will prevent you from giving away your precious loot, instead allowing you to price it so it flies off the shelves, allegorically speaking.

So there you go. Five very easy steps to earning and keeping your World of Warcraft Gold. Nothing complicated, nothing secret, but if you apply these rules with a minimum of rigor, especially the one about not spending, soon you too will be oozing WoW Gold!

And what a great feeling that will be!
