Scarlet Monastery, For Silk and Profit

March 21st, 2008 · 2 Comments

Lack of cloth is a situation that has been more or less permanent since I started playing World of Warcraft. This is why it seems important to me to say and do what I can to educate my fellow players so that fewer have to suffer the embarrassment of buying cloth on the Auction House for tailoring, or God forbid, to raise their First Aid skill.

Don’t laugh. I’ve seen it happen. (cough, cough)

Today’s article is dedicated to an old favorite. It’s been written about through and through, front to back and upside down. But I’ve never written about it, so here it is.

My friends, I give you: THE SCARLET MONASTERY — An In-Depth, Full-Clear, Silk and Profit Analysis, By Mandorall the Magnificent.

The background: Mandorall’ kind of bored, because his friends never ask him out to play, so this morning, he figured that he would pout and clear Scarlet Monastery, all by his lonesome. Quite honestly, it wasn’t much of a challenge. Actually it wasn’t a challenge at all. Mandorall is a 70th level Protection Paladin. Granted, he’s got crappy gear, but come ON. He could — and did — take 20 to 30 Scarlet people at the same time and not die. Not heal, even. But that’s not important right now.

What’s important is how much WoW Gold Mandorall had coming in.

Mandorall went it with 195g 57s 87c, 62 empty bag slots and 20 Mana Biscuits. I know, there’s better, but they do the job and Mandorall still has stacks of them getting moldy in the bank.

After clearing all four (4) instance areas, he had:

  • 207g 68s 02c
  • Grey items worth 3g 7s 86c
  • Blue & Green Bind-on-Pickup Soulbound items worth about 4g
  • 15 Greens and recipes to be sold at the Auction House - Value unknown

And the clincher:

  • 14 Mageweave cloths
  • 17 Wool Cloths
  • 239 Silk Cloths

Excluding the Cloth, which I gathered because presumably I needed Silk cloth for another one of my toons, but that I may end up selling on the Auction House, here is the profit:

  • Cash dropped from mobs: 12g 10s 15c
  • Value of greys: 3g 7s 86c
  • Value of Soulbound items: 4g

Total direct cash infusion: 19g 18s 01c

I would also like to point out that there are several more opportunities here to make cash in a situation like this.

Enchanting

If Mandorall had been an enchanter, he could have disenchanted all those souldbound Blues and Greens for a lot more cash than I sold them for to the vendor (4g). He may yet become an enchanter, as he is intensely frustrated with his chosen profession, Blacksmithing, which is teeth-gnashingly slow and expensive.

Bigger Bags

If Renei (Mandorall’s Mage Tailor friend) wasn’t so cheap, he would have made Mandorall bigger bags, which would have allowed him to keep more stuff. I had to destroy quite a few greys and even a couple of blues to make room for Silk (which, I’ll remind you, was the reason I was there)

So that’s it, folks. About 20 WoW Gold cash, 240 Silk Cloths, and assorted Greens which are probably worth between 5 and 30 Gold on the Auction House. The whole clear took me about 1h 45mn but I’m sure you can do better.

Well just ran the Monastery and only got 192 silks and 8 mageweaves. Apparently I’m still not as lucky with the drops as you !

Also, if I might add, (love them or hate them) twinking is srs bsns and the Graveyard & Library wings both tend to be very good for dropping level 29 gear.

With the 39s being ruined with mounts, the 19s and 29s are the only unmounted BGs left (and the 19s best gear is mostly BoPs from Deadmines & Wailing Caverns).
